Elderly require assistance while living in their homes...
Elders prefer to continue living in their own homes with familiar surroundings even when their children wish to take care of the parents at the latter's homes in India or abroad. Living in their own homes gives the senior citizens a sense of independence and pride, whereas living elsewhere may lead to problems in adjustment.
A reasonably healthy elder can feel depressed and totally out of place if he or she relocates to an aged persons’ facility if most of the other elderly inmates could be sick and infirm, as is likely. On the other hand, the companionship of friends and neighbours in the present locality gives the elderly a sense of belonging and contentment.
However, all these advantages would come to naught in case the elderly have no access to local assistance and hence organizations have stepped in to plug the gap.
Services that are now offered to seniors by organisations...
Seniors need a very wide range of services. Routinely needed personal services are grocery shopping, paying utility and other bills, Bank account related work, organizing meal or tiffin services etc. Travel services involve booking tickets, booking hotel accommodation, tour planning etc. Providing entertainment (playing games and reading, arranging DVDs) and giving company is also important.
Finally, the the most crucial is medical service entailing organizing lab tests, fixing appointments with doctors, arranging ambulance, handling hospitalization, procuring medicines etc. Home healthcare services include setting up ICU or HDU, 24 x 7 nursing, video consultation with doctors etc. The advantages of home healthcare are that there is increased patient comfort, reduced length of hospital stay and reduced chance of hospital acquired infections.
