Bungee jumping is an incredibly thrilling sport…
Want to conquer fear for good and once for all? Then, bungee jumping is the sport for you. Free falling in air from a great height will give you such an adrenaline high that the thrilling experience will remain etched in your mind for a long time.
In bungee jumping one end of a thick elastic cord is attached to the jumper and the other end is fastened to the jumping point. At some outfits, jumping is from a fixed platform whereas at some other service providers jumping is from a crane. In India, fixed platform jumping can be done from a height of upto 83 metres (272 ft) and crane jumping can be is done from height of upto appx 47 metres (130 ft) and below. Obviously higher the height, greater the thrill.
Safety is the paramount consideration in extreme sports and bungee jumping is no exception. The structural stability of the platform or crane, the quality of the elastic cord, the fastening of the cord etc have to meet exacting international standards like German TuV standards. Training of the operating personnel is equally important and foreign experts have often visited India for training purposes.
Who can take up bungy jumping?
In general, persons of ages 18 to 50 can do bungee jumping. However, the operators do not permit jumping by persons who have high BP, have fear of heights and are affected by severe back problems. Of course, pregnant women are also debarred. Those aged 50 years and above may have to produce a medical fitness certificate.
Finally, do not forget to collect the certificate which confirms that you have undertaken bungee jumping successfully. Surely you will be proud to possess and display it!
