Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)
CGHS is applicable for serving and retired Central Government employees & dependents. Cancer treatment can be availed at approved rates from any hospital, apart from the hospitals set up under CGHS.
Health Minister's Cancer Patient Fund (HMCPF) of Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN)
Up to Rs 2 Lakhs assistance may be available patients living below the poverty line and getting cancer treatment at one of 27 regional cancer centers in the country. The patient is required to submit documents listed in the Web Page mentioned below.
Health Minister’s Discretionary Grant (HMDG)
Financial assistance is available under HMDG to patients having family annual income up to Rs.1,00,000/- and below to meet a part of the expenditure on cancer treatment in Government Hospitals, in cases where free medical facilities are not available.
Income Tax Deduction Under Section 80DDB
For treatment of 'Malignant Cancers' (along with other specified illnesses) following deduction from income are allowed from FY 2018-19:
An individual tax payer (less than 60 years of age) & his/her dependents can claim deduction up to Rs 40,000/-
Senior Citizens (above 60 years) and very Senior Citizens (above 80 years) can claim deduction up to Rs 1,00,000/-
National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) - Proposed
NHPS will automatically cover the 10 crore families classified as 'deprived' under Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011. The scheme will be operational by end-2018. It will cover hospitalisation expenses up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year towards treatment of major diseases at empanelled private or public hospitals anywhere in India. There will be no cap on family size.
Railways: Facilities for Passengers who are Cancer Patients
Following concession is available for cancer patients traveling for treatment/periodic check-up: (a) Free travel in sleeper & 3rd AC (b) 75% Concession in 2nd class, 1st class, AC chair car (c) 50% Concession in 1st AC & 2nd AC.
One escort gets same concession in all classes except in sleeper and 3rd AC where escort gets only 75% concession.
Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY)
Under this scheme, BPL families and unorganised sector workers (see list of occupations on Web Page) are entitled for a hospitalization coverage up to Rs. 30,000/- per annum per family. Pre-existing conditions are covered and there is no age limit. Family coverage is for head of household, spouse and up to three dependents. Smart card that is issued has to be presented at empanelled hospitals, to get cashless treatment up to the specified amount.
Mukhyamantri Amrutum (MA) Yojana
This scheme is for BPL families and head of household, spouse and up to 3 dependents are covered. Coverage is for hospitalization expenses up to Rs 2 lakh per family per year. Cancer and other major illnesses are covered.
Mahatma Phule Janaarogya Yojana - formerly 'Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana' (RGJAY)
Scheme for below-the-poverty-line (BPL) yellow ration card holding families and above-the-poverty-line (APL) orange ration card holding families. Free access to medical care in government empaneled hospitals for oncology (surgical, medical & radiation) and other diseases up to Rs 1,50,000 per family per year.
