Higher education textbooks are expensive…
With over 35,000 colleges and over 20 million enrolled students, India’s higher education sector is one of the largest in the world. However, since many students come from modest backgrounds with limited means, buying new textbooks is an expensive proposition that leaves them financially strapped.
As a matter of fact, after a particular examination is over, that subject's textbooks are no longer needed. So the same set of textbooks can be rented out or sold to the new batch of students for whom this is a far more affordable option as compared to buying new books. So long as the used or pre-owned or second hand textbooks are in a reasonably good condition, recycling can be done multiple times.
An amusing point to be noted is that many students find the notes and tips that previous owners scribble on the pages to be very useful while studying.
Used textbooks are available on rent or for sale…
Offline stores sell used textbooks at a discount of almost 50% as compared to prices of new textbooks. At the end of the student year, the store will buy them back and refund almost half the price that was paid in the first instance.
So far as online stores are concerned, a used textbook bought online will be home-delivered. At the end of the year the online store can be contacted, to enable them to collect the textbook from your end and credit a pre-agreed amount to your account.
