Traffic alerts help in saving time and fuel...
Late for work or late in reaching home? Well, that’s because traffic jams and congestion are a daily occurrence on India’s roads. Traffic disruption is also caused by accidents, road blocks, route diversions as well as by political and religious processions.
Under such circumstances, timely information on road conditions and traffic situations would be greatly useful to commuters since they would be able to avail best alternate routes to reach the destination.
By taking such alternate routes, motorist would be able to save not only time but also precious fuel which would otherwise be wasted while driving on congested roads, not to mention the irritation and frustration that one experiences while stuck in traffic.
Traffic updates by SMS...
Traffic Departments of major Indian metros have launched a laudable initiative by introducing SMS service to inform commuters and motorists of traffic jams, congestion, hotspots etc.
Even though some of the Police Departments were posting traffic updates on Facebook and Twitter pages, the newer SMS service has been found to be most beneficial in the Indian context, given the massive mobile phone density in the country.
The traffic alerts will be based on data passed on continuously by each city’s Police control room to Traffic Department and would also include information conveyed by general public to Police control room and to the Traffic Department. The SMS alerts are free.
If you are living in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Mumbai, look into the Resources section below to find out the SMS message that has to be sent by you from your mobile phone in order to start receiving traffic alerts.
